Rev 21:1-4 , 1 Jn 2:15-17 (see also The Earth will be destroyed ). I believe God uses suffering in our lives in several ways to turn our eyes from an earthy focus to a heaven-bound hope: 1. We are only a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Through our enduring discouragements, persecutions, sufferings, or even death, we know assuredly our reward is with Christ in eternity (Philippians 3:20). Sometimes we see responsibility here on earth as a burden, but in Heaven, when we are reunited with the God who gave us every talent we possess, His reward will be responsibilities maximizing our talents in such a way as to produce great joy. This crown is not for those who depend upon their own sense of righteousness or of their own works. Reward Principle #6: We will have differing levels of reward in heaven, depending on our actions and choices on earth. But Christians who diligently run the spiritual race will receive rewards for their faithfulness at the Judgment Seat of Christ, rewards which they will reinvest in the glory of Christ for eternity. Before we attempt to construct a systematic theology of suffering, martyrdom, and rewards in heaven from the ideas that we have gleaned from our study of the books of the Bible, it is necessary to first conduct a survey of the various ways Christians in different times and different places have understood their own suffering and martyrdom. The Bible gives counsel on the meaning of suffering and how we can best endure it. We tend to think in material terms—mansions, jewels, etc. But these things are only representations of the true rewards we will gain in heaven. These verses certainly seem to indicate that our rewards in heaven vary according to how we live our lives here on earth: “…each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. Heb 10:34-39. Olympic athletes train for years to win prizes and acclaim that will quickly fade away. Rom 8:15-26. The reason for this is that there will be some incredible rewards in Heaven being given out in heaven for those who are willing to do good works for the Lord while living down here on this earth. The suffering of this present earth are not worthy to be compared with the future glory. After we suffer, God will restore us and make us strong, firm and steadfast.

1 Peter 5:8-11. Good works will not get us into heaven, as the Bible specifically tells us that we can only be saved by grace through our faith in Jesus Christ.
